The Hanseatic City of Wismar is located at the Baltic Sea coast of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, protected by the island of Poel at the southern end of the Wismar Bay. In 2002 the Old Town of Wismar together with the Old Town of Stralsund were added to the UNESECO World Heritage Sites with the title Historical Old Towns Stralsund and Wismar.
On the occasion of the Port Festival Wismar, the Sailing ship Mercedes heads for the Hanseatic City and offers day sails and evening sails in the protected bay of Wismar. Embarking and disembarking takes place at the Alte Holzhafen near the city center and sailing northbound into the Wismar Bay. To starboard you can see the island of Poel with the entrance to Kirchdorf and to port you have magnificent views of the coastline of Wismar West.
Before or after the sailing trip we recommend visiting the historical Old Town of Wismar as well as the 10.000 square meter large market place which is one of the largest market places in North Germany.
