Stralsund - Brig Mercedes

Stralsund is the door to the Island of Rügen

The city is located at the Strelasund, a strait of the Baltic Sea, and is called Door to the Island of Rügen, due to its location and its importance as a touristic centre. In 1234 the Hanseatic City of Stralsund obtained the Lübeck municipal law. The Old Town of Stralsund with the title Historical Old Towns Stralsund and Wismar belongs since 2002 to the UNESCO-World Heritage Sites. Since 2003 the former training ship Gorch Fock is moored at the ferry bridge in the port of Stralsund and can be visited. Every year at the beginning of June, the Port Festival Stralsund takes place and attracts many visitors from the area as well as tourists.

Stralsund at the Strelasund with the Gorch Fock I

On the occasion of the Port Festival Stralsund the Brig Mercedes is heading for the Hanseatic City and offers day sails and evening sails on the protected Strelasund. Depending on the wind directions we can sail northbound to the Gellenstrom, west of the island Hiddensee or pass the Ziegelgraben bridge southeastward to the Greifswalder Bodden. All the way passengers have magnificent views of the Hanseatic City of Stralsund and the island of Rügen.
Before or after the sailing trip we recommend visiting the Gorch Fock I and a walk through the historical Old Town of Stralsund. Other attractions are the German Maritime Museum in the former Katharinen abbey and the in July 2008 opened Ozeaneum directly at the City Port of Stralsund.
